After The Caesarean A Caesarean Section literally takes only a matter of minutes to perform. However, those few minutes will drastically change how you will do things for weeks following the operation. Getting back into a normal routine will take time as well as patience. For those who had an active lifestyle before a Caesarean, taking the time to let the body properly heal can be frustrating, but is very necessary. Exercise: It is normally safe to resume an exercise routine 6-8 weeks after a Caesarean. It is important though, before resuming any exercising, to consult with your doctor. He or she will tell you how much exercise is safe at this point. Most likely he or she will instruct you to begin light exercise, avoiding crunches and sit-ups at first. Try beginning with a light exercise routine. Remember, donīt jump into anything too quickly. If you begin to feel pain in your incision area, stop exercising at once. If the pain continues, be sure to let your doctor know as soon as possible. House Cleaning: As tempting as it may be those first days at home, try your best to keep the house cleaning to a minimum. Avoid heavy duty cleaning such as mopping, vacuuming, or moving furniture. General light cleaning such as folding laundry, loading the dishwasher, etc, is fine, but make sure that you don't over work yourself. Driving: Do not drive until you have finished your pain medications. Taking medications can make you drowsy. Your doctor may give you instructions to not drive for at least two weeks or longer, even after you have finished your pain medications. Sexual Intercourse: Most doctors will recommend sustaining intercourse for 6 weeks after the birth of your baby. This holds true for both vaginal and Caesarean deliveries. Remember, allowing your body to heal, and giving yourself time to do so is the most important part of recovering from a Caesarean. It can be very tempting to jump back into the same routines you had before your operation, but, for the sake of your body and your health, it's best to listen to your doctor and listen to your body!
