Arm Yourself With Knowledge Let's face it, the thought of having a Caesarean Section can be pretty frightening. If you are like I was, you pretty much skip the Caesarean section chapters in your pregnancy books. After all, how could a Caesarean happen to you? You have big plans for a "normal" vaginal birth. You envision pushing your baby into the world with relish. I too had envisioned a perfect vaginal birth. Like so many women I didn't think I would ever need a Caesarean. When my doctor suggested that a Caesarean was safest for me and my baby I was terrified. I knew nothing about the procedure, the recovery or the emotions following it. When I became pregnant with my second daughter, I knew immediately that I wanted a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean), but I also knew that it might not happen. Unlike my first pregnancy I prepared myself for a possible Caesarean. Was I frightened? Sure! But I went in armed with knowledge, and that is what made the procedure and the recovery so much easier. The best advice I can offer any of my readers is to prepare yourself. If your Caesarean is a planned one, research the facts, and prepare for your recovery. For those who will be attempting a VBAC, prepare yourself for the possibility of needing another Caesarean. If you have come across this site because your doctor has just informed you that you will need a Caesarean, read, read, read. Absorbing the facts, the advice and the possibilities will prepare you for what is to come. Nothing in life ever comes without challenges and battles. While we may envision the perfect birthing experience, achieving that goal takes a lot of determination. In some instances, our visions and our goals are replaced by new ones. Go into the experience with your goals intact, but, don't lose heart if things don't go as planned. Giving birth is a challenging, yet rewarding experience. Copyright 2004 Jaime Warren
